Latest Senate Healthcare Reform Bill

The latest news from the Senate regarding their Health care reform bill is disappointing. Due to the opposition of a few key Senators, specifically Sen. Joe Lieberman key provisions of Healthcare reform that citizens have been asking for i.e. inclusion of a public option for citizens to be able to review and sign up for and the ability for younger citizens beginning at age 55 to apply for Medicaid have been stripped from the bill. The Public Option is critical to provide more choices for options for people to choose different plans which would lead to greater competition between healthcare providers and hopefully lead to lower prices. While there are still improvements in the health care reform, without the Public Option, we lose the ability to create alternatives to existing health care providers and the leverage to drive prices to more affordable levels.
If the Senate bill gets passed, it will then go to Conference committee where representatives of Congress and the Senate will work on a mutually agreed upon plan. The Congressional bill includes the Public Option so there is much more negotiations to come. Stay tuned and keep putting pressure on your Senators and Congressional Reps to support the Public Option and other benefits that we citizens need to contain spiralling health care costs.

I did watch the MA election. They elected a pro-chioce moderate who ran away from the party. And in NY the radicals split the right side of the ticket and lost. This is very good news for everyone but Sara Palin and the tea baggers.

I know this might not be the most appropriate place to post this but for other readers living in the USA are you concerned about the debt? It just seems like it is getting to the point where the country is going to go bankrupt and my husband and I are just a little concerned that our kids and grandkids are going to have some big problems in a few years. Dear Sara: We all share your concern about the fiscal deficit and the debt burden we’re transferring to our children and grandchildren.
It is critical that we have leadership from the President down to address the critical immediate problems we face otherwise it will accelerate
future problems. We have to balance immediate needs with future debt, but it’s imperative we fix our country’s problems now. We can’t
afford to stick our heads in the sand. Remember, the current administration didn’t create our problems, it’s doing its best to fix the problems
created by the former administration who was in power for 8 years and left us in this situation.
